Patane Shilabye, a SSACAB PhD Fellow, has been selected to present a poster at the INTEREST 2026 Conference, an internationally recognised platform for cutting-edge research on HIV treatment, pathogenesis, and prevention.
The research examines the intersection of HIV, psychological factors, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, highlighting the growing importance of bridging research across communicable and non-communicable diseases. This work contributes to advancing understanding of how mental and physical health interact in the context of HIV and long-term health outcomes. The INTEREST Conference brings together leading researchers, clinicians, and policymakers from around the world to share the latest scientific advances and strengthen global collaboration in HIV research and care.
Why it matters:
As people living with HIV live longer, they increasingly face long-term health challenges, including cardiovascular disease. Understanding how psychological factors interact with HIV and CVD risks can help inform more integrated, patient-centred approaches to care that address both mental and physical health outcomes.
